Project Profile: Delivering mission-critical custom financial reporting for an Oracle Cloud environment
Oracle Cloud Financials reporting support using Oracle BI Publisher / OTBI & managed services support for custom report development and deployment
Client Introduction
The client is a Canadian territory government and a public-sector organization that recently transitioned from a legacy financial system to Oracle Cloud. As part of this transition, the finance team required reliable, production-ready reporting that matched their established business processes and supported day-to-day operational and compliance needs. Standard Oracle Cloud reports did not fully meet these requirements, creating a need for highly customized reporting expertise.
Problem / Pain Points
Following the move to Oracle Cloud, the Government’s finance team faced several challenges related to reporting. Only a limited number of usable reports were initially available, and many did not align with how the team historically analyzed financial data in their legacy system. Finance users could not feasibly review transactions record by record within the application and instead relied on structured, Excel-based reports to manage critical activities such as period close, customer collections, supplier payments, and statutory reporting.
In addition, many required reports involved complex logic, data drawn from numerous Oracle Cloud tables, and specific layouts that standard reports could not provide. These reports needed to replicate the look, feel, and functionality of legacy outputs while operating accurately within the new Oracle Cloud environment. Without these reports, the finance team risked inefficiencies, delayed decision-making, and challenges meeting operational and compliance requirements.
Solution
ERP-One provided dedicated Oracle Cloud reporting expertise to support the Government’s finance team. Working closely with client stakeholders, ERP-One developed fully customized financial reports using Oracle’s native reporting tools, including Oracle BI Publisher and Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI).
Each report was designed to address a specific business requirement, often combining data from multiple Oracle Cloud tables and applying complex logic to produce accurate, user-friendly Excel outputs. ERP-One worked iteratively with the finance team to understand legacy report designs, business rules, and validation needs, ensuring continuity between the old and new systems.
In addition to report development, ERP-One managed the full lifecycle of each report, including development, testing, deployment to production, and post-delivery support. This approach allowed the client to request new or enhanced reports as needs evolved, with confidence that each deliverable would be production-ready and fit for daily use.
Results
Since the start of the engagement, ERP-One has delivered approximately 12–15 fully customized financial reports, with additional requests continuing to be submitted by the client. These reports are now used daily by the finance team to support critical activities such as financial close, cash management, overpayment analysis, and compliance reporting.
The client has reported that the delivered reports meet their functional requirements and have not introduced defects into production. The Excel-based outputs enable finance users to validate data, apply filters, and take action quickly without navigating large volumes of transactional records in the application. As a result, the finance team has been able to operate more efficiently within Oracle Cloud while maintaining the reporting standards established in their legacy system.
Conclusion
ERP-One has played a key role in helping the Canadian territory's Government realize value from its Oracle Cloud investment by bridging the gap between standard system reporting and real-world public-sector finance requirements. Through close collaboration, deep Oracle Cloud expertise, and a focus on practical, user-friendly outcomes, ERP-One has delivered reliable, customized reporting that supports daily operations and ongoing business needs.
As the Government continues to expand its Oracle Cloud footprint and transitions more project work into production, ERP-One remains a trusted partner supporting the evolving reporting and support requirements of the organization.
